چکیده
E Within the framework of the new WHO regional strategy aimed at malaria elimination, special attention is given to operational research. In order to update scientifi c knowledge on malaria, the WHO Regional Offi ce for Europe has initiated a regional programme on operational research related to malaria entomology and vector control, which is being carried out successfully with the assistance of research institutions and partners in affected countries of Middle Asia and South Caucasus. The objectives of the research are closely tied to the particular situation and problems identifi ed within a single country or a group of neighbouring countries. The identifi cation and geographical distribution of Anopheles mosquitoes, the prevalence of sibling species and their role in malaria transmission, taxonomy, biology and ecology of malaria vectors are of particular interest in the Region.

Malaria is an acute and chronic disease caused by obligate intracellular protozoan parasites of the genus plasmodium, transmitted through the bite of female anopheles mosquitoes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, currently malaria transmits in 104 countries and due to a failure in the fight against this disease, their control and elimination is difficult. The parasite res...

Introduction: Anopheles mosquitoes are the sole biologic vectors of mlaria. Up to now, more than 480 species of Anopheles have been identified. The present study was achieved to identify the Anopheles mosquitoes of malaria high risk foci in Hormozgan province (Bashagard and Syahoo districts) and detect their main biologic charactristics in 2007-2008. Methods: Larvae, pupae and adult mosquit...

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a major family of detoxification enzymes which possess a wide range of substrate specificities. Interest in insect GSTs has primarily focused on their role in insecticide resistance. In this study, following World Health Organization (WHO) routine susceptibility test, DNA was extracted from specimens of Anopheles stephensi collected from the Kazeroon distri...
